Do not push deeper just because you reached an entrance once. Use environmental oxygen, carry Air Bladders, build the Standard Air Tank when Silver allows it, and leave when low O2 appears with another problem: bad landmarks, hostile pressure, an unmapped cave, or a scan that forces you to stop.

Check the return before the reward
Before chasing a scan, wreck, or rare material, ask how you will get home. If the plan only works perfectly, it is not ready.
Use temporary oxygen while scouting
Oxygen Tunics, Bloom Sap funnels, air pockets, and Air Bladders are scouting tools before a longer route.
Upgrade when Silver allows it
Standard Air Tank makes cave and scan routes feel far less brittle.
Leave extra O2 for scans
Scanner and Bioscanner routes make you stop moving, so turn back earlier than you would on a simple material run.
